Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant provides a foundation of aid, to which assistance from other federal and non-federal sources may be added. Pell Grants do not have to be repaid.
Criteria for Pell Grant
- You must be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program for the purpose of obtaining a certificate.
- You must be U.S. citizen or national or an eligible non-citizen.
- You must have financial need.
- You must have a high school diploma, GED or show ability to benefit. Those students not having a diploma or GED must take the ASSET test to show ability to benefit from the program. The ASSET test is available in the Academic Career Center on the Northwest Technology Center campus.
- You must not be in default on any Title IV, HEA loan and you must not owe a refund on any Title IV, HEA grant received for attendance at any institution as evidenced by a signed statement and financial aid transcripts.
- You must be registered with Selective Service (males only, at least 18 years of age and born after December, 1959).
Students who receive financial aid must maintain satisfactory academic progress in the course of study they are pursuing according to the standards of Northwest Technology Center.
Steps to Apply
To apply for financial aid, a student must contact the Financial Aid Office at 580.227.3708. The Financial Aid Officer is available to see students between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Students can make application by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and mailing it in or by applying online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students must re-apply each school year.
Types of Financial Aid
The following types of financial aid are available at Northwest Tech:
- Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is a federally funded grant program which provides funds for educational expenses to adult students who attend post-secondary education. If the student withdraws from school, the grant payments will terminate. The family financial situation determines whether a student may receive a grant and the amount of the grant. Grant amounts are determined yearly based on federal funding of the Pell Grant program. All students who are eligible and make application will receive a Federal Pell Grant.
- Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program (OTAG)
You must meet all of the general eligibility requirements listed for the Federal Pell Grant Program, must be an Oklahoma resident, attend an approved Oklahoma school and must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
- Oklahoma G.I. Bill
Benefits under this bill allow tuition-free training to Oklahoma veterans who meet the criteria.
- Veteran's Benefit
Students may apply for Chapters 30,31,32,34 or 106 benefits, if they meet eligibility requirements.
- Bureau of Indian Affairs
Assistance is provided to individuals who are at least 1/4 Indian and listed on tribal rolls. Tribes handle assistance through tribal and area offices. Grants may provide tuition, supplies and living expenses while students are in school.
- Workforce Investment Act (W.I.A.)
Services will be provided through a one-stop delivery system. Northwest Technology Center is an eligible provider for WIA and provides a variety of services from employment information to financial aid for training and education programs.
- Northwest Technology Center Foundation Student Scholarships
Each year a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation will go to support scholarships for deserving students. This financial assistance may include books, tuition, and other educational costs. The Foundation Scholarship committee assists in the establishment of scholarships and the selection of the recipients. Scholarship applications may be downloaded in Microsoft Word Format.
- Oklahoma Higher Learning Access
Program (OHLAP)
Students must meet all of
the general eligibility requirements
listed for the Federal Pell Grant,
and must meet OHLAP requirements
while in high school. The student
must begin postsecondary education
within three years of graduating
from high school. The award is limited
to an amount equivalent to tuition
at a public two-year college. A cooperative
agreement allows certain courses
or programs at the technology center
to qualify for college credit from
a public college.
- Vocational Rehabiliation
Eligibility is determined by the Oklahoma Department
of Human Services. Application is made through the
Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Funding amounts
are determined by the department of vocational rehabilitation.
Disbursement
NWTC has two payment periods per award year, and Pell Grants will typically be disbursed twice a year, dependent upon when the student enrolled in the major, and on whether the majority of the hours in a payment period fall within that award year.
All financial aid funds will be disbursed through the Business Office. The student must show a photo ID to receive their disbursement.
Students will be paid the first time based upon the fact that they are enrolled. Satisfactory academic progress will be monitored before further disbursements will be made.

Scholarship Applictions
Application for Scholarship
Available to students who graduated from a high school in the Northwest Tech district. May apply for tuition waiver during the first two years after graduation for up to 1050 hours in a daytime program.

Otha Grimes Scholarship
This scholarship is usually offered twice a year to students who might not qualify for other financial aid.
Scholarships are to be used for expenses that directly relate to a student attending a technology center class. Allowable expenses include: tuition, books, uniforms, conference registration fees, school supplies, childcare, if not paid by another source.
