Enrollment for Spring 2009 Short-Term Courses

A Spring Short-Term Course catalogue may now be downloaded (Adobe Acrobat Reader required for viewing). Fairview enrollment is now open. Alva enrollment begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

International Cooking, Personal Financial Planning highlight evening schedule at Northwest Technology Center Fairview Campus

“The Introduction to Financial Planning” A Road Map to Your Destination highlights the Fall evening class schedule for Northwest Technology Center in Fairview. In this class, taught by Curtis Karber CPA, you can choose the topics that best fit your needs. Topics to be discussed are: saving for retirement (includes all ages), sure fine way not to be beat by the market, college planning—start now, how NOT to be insurance poor, tax planning- get your maximum deductions and estate planning before you die. Enroll in one topic or enroll in all with discounted price. A meal will be served for the first session.

If you are tired of eating the same old food every night come join our cooking international style class. You will learn how to prepare: Brasole, thin sliced roast beef, saute’ bell peppers and mushrooms with shredded parmesan cheese covered in a marina sauce topped with mozzarella cheese, Lasagna, tender pasta layered with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and sour cream with sweet Italian Sausage, Egg Rolls, spicy cabbage rolls with a variety of meats, veggies and sweets with cream cheese won tons, Enchiladas, shredded meat or cheese rolled in soft tortillas with a smooth sauce and layered with two kinds of cheese topped with sweet onions, Chili Rellenos, roasted chilies stuffed with cheese and cooked in egg batter.

For those individuals who want to brush up on their computer skills or want to learn new programs we have the classes for you: Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft 2007 and Quickbooks 2007 Pro.

In Adobe Photoshop you will explore Photoshop and its tools while learning to edit images, work with layers and filters, use painting tools, blend modes for shading effects and saving images in formats for print and web.

In Microsoft 2007 you will learn how to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. This class will help the novices choose the program which will benefit them the most.

In Quickbooks 2007 Pro you will learn the latest version of QuickBooks from top to bottom. By the time class is over you will have mastered the software through hands-on, step-by-step training. Each chapter builds on skills you’ll have learned in previous chapters, while you grow your knowledge you’ll be reinforcing skills you’ve just gained. You will get comfortable performing simple transactions and using QuickBook’s more advanced features.

For those who want to get their creative juices flowing Sewing for Beginners or the Landscape- Introduction to Acrylic Painting might be your choice.

In Sewing for Beginners you will learn the basics. You’ll learn about sewing tools and how to use a sewing machine. You will also learn how to select and use fabrics and patterns and how easy it is to sew.

In The Landscape- Introduction to Acrylic Painting with Marc Davis you will begin with an overview of landscape paintings from history and students will learn about the varied applications of this art form. Elements of composition will be introduced by these examples so the student will discover the principles of building an interesting arrangement. Students will be challenged to photograph appropriate subjects and will subsequently work from these photos in creating their painting(s). As the painting begins and proceeds, the instructor will discuss basics methods and techniques or applying paint colors to a surface to achieve a pleasing result.

Evening courses slated at Northwest Tech Alva Campus

There are many short-term, evening classes available this fall at Northwest Technology Center in Alva. 

For organizations or companies who want safety training, Safety Essentials is the class for you. With this class lowered insurance rates, a reduction in accidents and employee safety will be key benefits. Safety Essentials is held the first Monday and Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After completion of the training your employees with have, their 10 hour OSHA Certification, American Red Cross CPR Certification and First Aid Certification. The number sent is up to you; 1 or 20. Call by the 28 th to enroll in the next month’s classes. The cost is $20 per person.

Some classes are for the dogs! Dog obedience and dog tricks are two classes that will help your dog stay out of the pound and turn them into being ‘man’s best friend’. Dog Obedience and Dog Tricks will be taught by a certified dog instructor. They will help unleash your dog’s potential with these classes.

For those who want to brush up on their golf game or learn a new sport Golf Basics is the choice for you. Bring your clubs and learn the basics of golf with “hands-on” instruction with Steve Parkhurst. Classes will meet at the Alva Golf and Country Club; range balls and a round of golf included.

For individuals who are looking for a way to get fit without the same old boring routine come try Zumba, a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements. Zumba integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, intervals and resistance training to maximize cardio output, cardio-vascular benefits and total body toning. This class is designed for everyone; participants of any fitness level, any background or any age can start Zumba right away. Join Lindsay Stewart, certified Zumba instructor.

For those who enjoy taking pictures but never know what to do with them Photoshop is the class for you. With Photoshop, more than any other product on the market today, you can lose weight, replace hair loss, remove wrinkles and straighten those crooked teeth. You are going to be able to do things with your photographs and graphic design your never thought possible. You will amaze your family and friends and might even make money.

For individuals who have a creative side or just want to learn how to make their house look better interior decorating is for you. This course will help you feel confident in your ability to decorate with style. From finishes to finishing touches, you will learn creative solutions for decorating your home or office.

Roll in the dough and join us to learn how to cook some favorites. You will learn how to make homemade bread and Dutch oven delights in our class Rolling in the Dough. You will learn how to make the perfect pie with Pie in the Sky.

Many old favorites are back including Privite Pilot, Ceramic Tiling, Pilates, Country Western Dancing and Digital Photgraphy. Enrollment in all courses is limited.
